EvoSwitch and climate-neutral operation
In the vision of EvoSwitch, creating economic added value goes together with social justice and a good living environment. Only a company that achieves a balance between economic, social and environmental aspects can operate successfully in the long term. So our organisation has firmly undertaken the responsibility to minimise the ecological impact on our living environment, and to contribute to the society of which we are a part. We do this, on the one hand, by saving energy and on the other by actively investing in climate-neutral operation in cooperation with the Climate Neutral Group.
Free cooling
| Normally, datacenters are cooled with energy-wasteful compressors. Day in, day out. Not at EvoSwitch. We’ve had Free Cooling installed – an energy-efficient cooling concept that intelligently makes use of the cooler outside air. With the temperatures in Holland, the compressor is no longer needed for forty percent of the time. |
Cold Corridor
| EvoSwitch has invested in the innovative Cold Corridor Concept. Cold air is efficiently conducted to the front of the cabinets while warm air is efficiently extracted at the back. The system prevents a ‘short circuit’ between the cold and warm air, which makes it more energy-efficient. |
Delta Conversion
| Our advanced Uninterruptible Power Supplies use Delta Conversion. This is an innovative, energy-efficient method devised by UPS supplier APC. In this, the emergency power supply not only serves to condition the power supply but also makes a substantial contribution to our energy-efficient character. |
HF lighting
| We've taken our energy-efficient policy a long way. High-frequency (30,000 Hz) lighting has been fitted throughout the datacenter, supplemented with sensors that automatically switch off the lights when there’s no one around. One advantage of HF lighting is its extraordinarily low energy consumption. |
'Green' electricity
| The electricity that EvoSwitch consumes has been generated in an environmentally friendly way. We get our ‘green’ electricity from the DELTA power company. It’s called 'Zeeuws Groen' – the green electricity from Zeeland. The difference between ‘'Zeeuws Groen' and ordinary electricity is the way it is generated. 'Zeeuws Groen' is 100% 'green' electricity and is generated from sustainable energy sources such as wind, sun and biomass. With the profits on 'Zeeuws Groen', DELTA invests in such things as new projects for generating more environmentally friendly 'Zeeuws Groen' power. |
Climate Neutral Group
EvoSwitch cooperates with the Climate Neutral Group, to compensate for non-sustainable energy consumption at EvoSwitch (only the emergency power generators and company vehicles). EvoSwitch collaborates with the Climate Neutral Group on worldwide projects to restore the CO2 balance in the atmosphere and thus contribute to solving the climate problem.
To neutralise the CO2 emissions, new trees are planted and biogas projects initiated. All the projects satisfy strict quality requirements and are checked by independent organisations. A particular feature of these projects is that they are not only good for the climate but also for the local population – often poor – where the projects take place.
The Green Grid
EvoSwitch is a member of The Green Grid. This worldwide consortium of ICT suppliers strives for more efficient energy use in datacenters. The founders of The Green Grid are AMD, Microsoft, Dell, HP, Intel, IBM and SUN, but now they have been joined by many other companies including Cisco, Texas Instruments, EMC, Novell, Juniper Networks and Fujitsu Siemens.
