OCOM fastest growing provider of internet services in Deloitte Technology Fast 50
Posted on: 01-10-2007
Haarlem, 1 October 2007 – OCOM, owner of the hosting provider LeaseWeb, climate-neutral data center EvoSwitch and the network service provider FiberRing, has debuted at number 18 in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, the list of the fastest-growing technology companies.
This high ranking in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 is due to the fact that OCOM has grown by 1087 percent in just five years, with total revenues of 17 million euros. Further growth at the current tempo is still possible, as OCOM caters to the entire international internet services market. Approximately 75 percent of the revenue comes from abroad. The company\'s rapid growth is remarkable.
Close ties with Cisco, Dell and Microsoft
The market for internet services includes a large number of suppliers. “We have earned our place in the market by offering high-quality internet services for a good price,” according to Con Zwinkels, Managing Director of OCOM. “Both for private and business customers. Our close ties with A-brands such as Cisco, Dell and Microsoft have provided an important contribution to achieving the high quality levels. We have never skimped on infrastructure. By offering all of this for a very competitive price, we have been able to attract many new clients.” With its current market approach, the subsidiary LeaseWeb has been able to attract customers such as Starbucks, the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, KLPD, Hyves, KPMG, KLM, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Rabobank and Ohra.
Economies of scale are vital
“We chose to work in the international market, with a primary focus on Europe, for a reason,” says Zwinkels. “Economies of scale are vital to maintain a position in the current market and continue to grow. Growth, as is well known, does not come from intensification of market penetration. The game has to be played with the current customer demand. For suppliers this means that you have to create an economy of scale in order to continue to play any significant role in the future. I expect that there will be a lot of consolidation rounds in the near future. We have already made a start by incorporating many of the various activities in the chain; not only hosting but also carrier activities via FiberRing and data centre services via EvoSwitch. We will continue expanding, and ISO norms will ensure that this growth occurs in a structured manner.”
Con Zwinkels and Laurens Rosenthal
Con Zwinkels is the Managing Director and, together with Laurens Rosenthal, also the owner of OCOM. As students, Zwinkels and Rosenthal actually began hosting websites on a server from an attic room. Since then, their activities have grown to the size of a multinational. The companies within OCOM can process 60 gigabits per second from six different data centres in the Amsterdam region.
